Bill is the head of the Family Law Section at Hammerle Finley. He is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a founding member of the Denton County Collaborative Law Group, and an AV- rated Attorney by Martindale Hubbell. Bill specializes in complex family law matters- large estates, divorces involving family-owned businesses, custody - and in matters where the other side (attorney or party) is playing hardball.
Bill Neal's theory on practicing family law has been finely honed over the past four decades - guide and protect the client. Bill is aggressive and thorough in his representation of family law clients. Some of his leadership and negotiating skills were developed in college days, where he was quarterback at the University of Arizona, President of his Senior class, member of Sophos, Chain Gang, and Bobcats Men's honoraries, listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, a two- time President of his chapter of the Sigma Chi men's fraternity, and graduated with honors in 1970. Bill became a Texan when he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. While getting his legal education he was selected for service on the Southwestern Law Journal and served as the Journal's Research Editor for the 1972-1973 school year. Bill began getting the necessary practical skills of "lawyering" while still in law school by participating in the newly established SMU Legal Clinic and working part time for a local lawyer as a law clerk for two years. Due both to his practice and his dedication to the concept of Continuing Legal Education, Bill stays on the cutting edge of the development of family law as it impacts his client's lives on a daily basis. Bill's practice has allowed him to work on divorces that involve millions of dollars to ones that most people must face in a divorce situation. His incisiveness and intuitiveness provides him with a unique skill when the welfare and future of children are at stake in custody disputes, and when combined with his personal interest in finding ways to remove and protect our children from the legal system's "process" in these cases allows his clients the benefit of representation which provides both an experienced and objective counsel and an innovative and personal caring perspective.
Bill has handled, supervised, opposed and briefed the gamut of legal cases involving Family Law - Divorce, Protective Orders, Temporary Hearings, Contempt and Enforcement procedures, Clarification motions, Paternity suits, Child Support cases, Visitation/Possession suits, Adoptions, Terminations, Post- Divorce modifications on all issues, Retirement matters, Contractual issues arising from divorce agreements, Pre-and Post-Marital Agreements, Military- related issues, and Appeals. He has been retained by his colleagues within the Texas to provide them with his advise and counsel in cases involving complex family law issues. He continues to represent clients who initially hired him over 20 years ago - being both an attorney and counselor at law to these clients.
Bill grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas and is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. He enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family. Bill and his wife Shelli have raised two sons who are both attending college.
He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Denton County Collaborative Lawyers Association, Denton Bar Association, Dallas Bar Association and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists.
