I have a few complaints.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Technology Is Trying Too Hard<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

It seems like every app has a pop-up asking if I want a summary, a review, a hint, a\u00a0draft,\u00a0or a contact.\u00a0I do not.\u00a0Rest assured, tech world, that I will ask if I ever need, or want, your help.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I-35E May Never End<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Construction on I-35E will never end. I\u00a0refuse to\u00a0fix the ding on my windshield that was made\u00a03 years ago\u00a0from flying construction debris because why\u00a0bother; the windshield will just get dinged again\u00a0by more construction debris.\u00a0Don\u2019t\u00a0get me started on the constantly shifting\u00a0construction\u00a0traffic patterns that make driving that highway a crapshoot.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Endless Referral Loop<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

I think the first word physicians\u00a0are taught is \u201creferral.\u201d\u00a0It is impossible to have only\u00a0one\u00a0doctor, because\u00a0he or\u00a0she will\u00a0inevitably\u00a0refer you to\u00a0two\u00a0specialists, who will each refer you to another specialist, and none of them will be in the same office building or use the same patient software.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Irritations Small and Large<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

More\u00a0people my age are\u00a0<\/span>dying young<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and it is beyond irritating.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of which, to the person\u00a0in front of me\u00a0who just crossed\u00a0three\u00a0lanes of traffic to make an exit that had been clearly listed on the overhead sign\u00a0two\u00a0miles back, I hope you get the day you deserve.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not Everyone Is as Clever as They Think<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Most people are\u00a0interesting, but\u00a0a\u00a0few\u00a0think\u00a0<\/span>talking to an attorney<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is a personal invitation to\u00a0match\u00a0wits.\u00a0I find them boring.\u00a0You lose.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Best, Worst,\u00a0and Other Overused Words<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

I do\u00a0not\u00a0understand why people use superlatives\u00a0like best and worst.\u00a0If you look far enough back then you can always find a dirtier politician, a hotter summer, a bigger thief,\u00a0or\u00a0a more ungrateful child.\u00a0I once heard a judge give a\u00a0speech at a continuing legal education class imploring\u00a0the lawyers not to argue that they had never, in\u00a0all\u00a0their years of practicing law, seen a more egregious case of [whatever].\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sympathy, Empathy and Projection<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

People who opine other people\u2019s opinions are just perpetuating the problem.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Empathy is not a good look.\u00a0It is delusional to believe that you can\u00a0vicariously experience someone else\u2019s emotions.\u00a0You and the other person are\u00a0separate people, with\u00a0different backgrounds, bodies, and brains.\u00a0You can be sympathetic, but anything more is just a projection.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gaslighting Has Lost Its Meaning<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The word \u201cgaslighting\u201d has become another meaningless, lazy\u00a0label.\u00a0You can disagree, question a premise, call someone out for misstating a fact, or\u00a0rebut.\u00a0Those are thoughtful\u00a0responses that pinpoint the other person\u2019s error.\u00a0Accusing the other person of gaslighting is like shouting down that person \u2013 just another bullying tactic.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Audiobooks Are\u00a0Not the Same as\u00a0Reading<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

No, listening to an audiobook is not better than reading\u00a0the\u00a0book.\u00a0The audiobook orator shapes your experience\u00a0by\u00a0his or her pacing,\u00a0pronunciation\u00a0and emphasis.\u00a0Reading, on the other hand, allows you to make the story your own.\u00a0It engages your full imagination, with the bonus that you see the spelling of words and the use of punctuation.\u00a0Reading a paper book\u00a0does not require batteries or an internet connection.\u00a0I will, however,\u00a0concede\u00a0that audiobooks are better when you are driving.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Food Guidelines Are Not Always Helpful<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Enough with the food guidelines.\u00a0\u00a0After the government told us for 40 years that eggs would kill us, and then in 2016 did a complete about-face,\u00a0I think I\u00a0am safer making my own dietary decisions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Your Social Media Posts Are Not Secret<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Why do people think their\u00a0<\/span>social media posts<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are secret?\u00a0I want you to take every social media post you have ever made and stick an Exhibit \u201cA\u201d on it.\u00a0That will make it so much easier for the judge and jury when it comes\u00a0time\u00a0for your trial.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
