Medicaid Planning

In Texas, the Medicaid program is administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. While there are 42 individual Medicaid programs in Texas, the best known programs are the ones that provide long term care benefits to qualified elders: nursing home Medicaid and Community Based Alternatives. To qualify for either program, a person must meet nationality and residence requirements, as well as defined income and resource (asset) limitations.

  • Nursing Home Medicaid:

This program covers most medical and support needs, including prescription medications, of a person who needs nursing facility care.

  • Community Based Alternatives Program:

this program is available to persons age 21 or older with a medical need for nursing home care who elect home and community-based services as an alternative to nursing home placement, and pays for nursing services personal assistance services, adaptive aids and medical supplies, assisted living, minor home modifications and respite care.
